Dennis was an out-of-work drummer who moved to Sunrise Creek hoping to leave the noise and disappointments of city life behind. Music had once been a big part of his world, but these days the drums were played more for himself than anyone else. Then, one afternoon, he happened to hear a local radio interview with songwriter David Caldwell. David was talking about his songs, the stories behind them and what they might become in the hands of the right musicians. Something about the interview stayed with Dennis. Later, sitting at home with his laptop, an idea began to take shape. What if those musicians didn't have to be found in the conventional way? What if the emerging world of artificial intelligence could help him create them?

Dennis began experimenting. Slowly the characters and their sound came together: Bazil on bass, Ken on keyboards, Sammy Jo on steel guitar and her daughter Tanya on trumpet, with Dennis himself behind the drums. They were brought together in the fictional world of Sunrise Creek, but their music was being created in a very modern way, using AI as the tool that allowed the idea to become a reality. Five personalities, five instruments and the songs of David Caldwell eventually found a sound of their own. And so, from a chance radio interview, an ageing drummer's imagination and a little help from twenty-first-century technology, the Sunrise Creek Quintet was born.
